The primary focus of the event is going to be on the variety of careers available in manufacturing. There will be subject matter experts on hand which will provide insight into their specific field of expertise. These sessions will focus on the skill sets required, what a day in the life of is like, salary potential and the pathway to such a career. “Unfortunately, manufacturing is one of the most misunderstood industry sectors and there are most definitely some misconceptions about what it is all about” says Jeff Wargo, Human Resources Director at Orchids Paper Products. Manufacturing has a huge impact in the local economy with the MidAmerica Industrial Park and there are some great career opportunities available. In fact, manufacturing ranks number one in our nation when it comes to salary and benefits. “We want our young people to know that there is something for them right here in our backyard” says John Hawkins, Governors Council for Economic and Workforce Development. “If they are the type of person who is not interested in moving away to get education and employed, they can get educated and employed right here at the MidAmerica Industrial Park”. Manufacturing employers will also be on hand to discuss their businesses and the opportunities that they have available at their company. There are many products made in the MidAmerica Industrial Park and the companies will be on and to display and discuss the products which they produce. “This is a great opportunity for our young people to be exposed to the largest employment sector in the county and to determine if it is an option for them”, says Tonya Backward, Workforce Development Coordinator at MidAmerica. “We are pleased to be the Platinum Sponsor for this year’s event as we see it as a great way to attract future workers for the companies in the park.”
The event is open to young people ages 16 to 21 and is only $25 to attend.
