ALPHA TAU OMEGA DISTINCT ADVANTAGE SCHOLARSHIP - $1000 scholarships available to all male high school seniors planning on attending OSU and are interested in joining a fraternity. Applications are available in the counseling office. Deadline is April 1st.
AMERICAN LEGION NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL ORATORICAL CONTEST - Must be a citizen or lawful resident of the U.S. enrolled in high school. Look on web site www.legion.org. Or contact the office of The American Legion.
BEST BUY SCHOLARSHIP - 1000 scholarships of $1500 each to students in grades 9-12. Students need solid grades and must be involved in volunteer community service or work experience. Apply online at www.bestbuy.com/scholarships or www.at15.com.
BIG BROTHER BIG SISTER MARK H. IOLA SCHOLARSHIP - must have been a matched little brother or little sister in an Oklahoma Big Brother Big Sisters program for at least one year. You do not have to be currently active. Applications will be evaluated on financial need, volunteer work, community involvement, and academic achievement. http://www.bbbsok.org/scholarships/. Deadlines vary depending on the semester award is needed.
BURGER KING SCHOLARS PROGRAM- $1000 awards to all seniors who plan to go to a 2 or 4 year college, university or tech school in Fall 2009, have a 2.5 GPA, work an average of 15 hours a week, are involved in community service activities, and demonstrate financial need. BURGER KING Employee Scholars Program - seniors who have been an active employee for at least 12 months by the deadline, have a min. GPA of 2.o and receive a written recommendation from his/her BK employer are eligible for this scholarship. www.haveityourwayfoundation.org/bke_qualifications.html
CCOSA SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - 5 different scholarships available for students who are children of members of the Cooperative Council for OK School Administrators. Deadline is Feb. 12. Go to www.ccosa.org/CCOSA/AwardsScholarshipInfo.aspx for more info.
DECA SCHOLARSHIPS - 13 different scholarships available to students who are DECA members. Online submissions available at www.deca.org/schol.html or come by the counseling office for a copy of the application. Deadlines Vary - Dec - Feb. GRIDIRON FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP- $500 - $2500 scholarships available to students planning to study JOURNALISM in college with the qualities and potential to enhance the journalism profession in Oklahoma. Applications available in the counseling office or online at www.okcgridiron.org. Deadline is March 15th.
JOHN STARKS SCHOLARSHIP - 2009 applications will be available to tri-state and Tulsa area high school seniors who demonstrate a minimum 3.0 GPA, commitment to community service and financial need on our about January 15, 2009. You may download an application from the website www.johnstarks.com at that time and submit with the required documentation by April 1, 2009.
JUNIOR LEAGUE OF TULSA'S FOUNDERS' SCHOLARSHIP - $1500 to two local Tulsa area female seniors who meet the following: attend high school in Tulsa area, have a min. 2.5 GPA, exhibit a commitment to voluntarism, and is not a daughter of an active Junior League of Tulsa member. Applications are available in the counseling office. Completed applications must be signed and must be received by JLT by Feb. 14, 2010 at 5 pm.
KFC COLONEL'S SCHOLARS - up to $20,000 for seniors with financial need, GPA of at least 2.75, going to a state school, and with an entrepreneurial spirit. Applications are available from Dec. 1st - Feb. 10, 2010 @ www.kfcscholars.org
MARINE CORPS SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION - sons and daughters of Marines and children of former Marines, with particular attention being given to children whose parent was killed or wounded in action with an adjusted gross income of $80,000 or less and a 2.0 GPA - applications available on-line in December @ www.mcsf.com
NATIONAL EAGLE SCOUT ASSOC. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - 149 scholarships to Eagle Scouts which vary in size from $1000 to $48000. Not available to students attending any of the US military academies. Go to www.nesa.org/applications.html Deadline is Jan, 31, 2010.
OKLAHOMA BURGLAR ALARM ASSOC. - student must be a graduating senior, must be accepted for admission to an accredited college. OKLAHOMA COUNCIL OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS ESSAY CONTEST - $12,000 in scholarships to 5 Oklahoma college-bound students. Entries must be 1000-1250 words answering the question "Why is entrepreneurship a foundation of our freedom?" Essays must be postmarked or emailed to www.ocpathink.org by Feb. 8th. Entry forms available online or in the counseling office.
OKLAHOMA ENGINEERING FOUNDATION (OEF) - several scholarships available to those who are NOT eligible to receive a National Merit or OK Regents Scholarship. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, an ACT composite between 24 and 29, and an ACT math score of 28 or better. Students also must have an intense desire to become a practicing engineer. OKLAHOMA HERITAGE ASSOC. COMPETITION - ninth through 12th graders
take a test on Oklahoma history. Those with high scores in each county receive a $1,000 cash scholarship or tuition grant to an Oklahoma college or university. Most counties have at least three scholarships available. The test is Saturday, April 11, 2009.http://www.oklahomaheritage.com/EducationAwards/Scholarships/
OKLAHOMA HERITAGE ASSOC. John W. and Mary D. Nichols Scholarship - $10,000 - High school seniors only. Students may be nominated for this scholarship by teachers or administrators not related to the student. The scholarship is based on the student's demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of Oklahoma history, as well as academic achievement, citizenship and leadership. http://www.oklahomaheritage.com/EducationAwards/Scholarships
Oklahoma Higher Education Financial Aid Opportunities:
- OKLAHOMA TUITION AID GRANT PROGRAM - application for need-based grants is through the FAFSA process. For best consideration, complete and submit the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1st.
- CHIROPRACTIC EDUCATION ASSISTANCE SCHOLARSHIP - student must be accepted to an Oklahoma chiropractic school.
- ACADEMIC SCHOLARS PROGRAM - students automatically qualify by achieving a designation as National Merit Finalist, National Merit Scholar, or US Presidential Scholar, or by scoring at or above the 99.5 percentile on teh ACT or SAT. Colleges and universities may also nominate students.
- FUTURE TEACHERS SCHOLARSHIP - nominations are through the college/university in which you enroll. Students who plan to teach in a critical teacher shortage area - science, foreign language, or early childhood education - are considered.
- INDEPENDENT LIVING ACT (Foster Care Tuition Waiver) - available to students up to 21 years of age who have been in DHS custody for at least nine months between the ages of 16-18.For more info on any of the above opportunities, call 800.858.1840 or go to studentinfo@osrhe.edu
OKLA POLICE CORPS - A federally funded program (Dept. of Justice) and administered in the State of Okla. by the Dept. of Public Safety/Highway Patrol. Can receive up to$30,000 for college. Web site: www.dps.state.ok.us/polisccorp's/
OKLAHOMA SCHOOLS INSURANCE GROUP - 12 state scholarships of varying amounts ($1000 -$2500) - 3 scholarships for the Northeast region will be given .One student is selected by each high school based on academic excellence, leadership in school activities and/or work experience and community service. Applications are available in the counseling office and must be returned to the counseling office for consideration by Feb. 22nd.
OKLAHOMA SOCIETY OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS EDUCTIONAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP - $500 available to students planning to major in accounting at an Oklahoma college or university. Applications are available at www.oscpa.com and are due April 1, 2009.
OSU HONORS COLLEGE - applications for admittance to the honors college are due by Feb. 1, 2010.
SEABEE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - renewable scholarship for up to $5000. Must be US citizen, child or grandchild of a current, honorably discharged, deceased or enlisted member of Naval Construction FROCE (Seabees) or Navy CEC (Civil Engineers Corps.) www.seabee.org Deadline of April 15th.
SEG FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP - renewable scholarship for up to $14,000. Student must have a career/major interest in physics, math, or geology/earth sciences; must demonstrate financial need, high academic achievement and seriousness of purpose. www.seg.org Deadline of March. 1
SIMON ESTES EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS - $10,000 scholarships for students with documented financial need (FAFSA), a 3.5 or higher GPA, well-defined motivation to pursue a higher education, maturity and sense of purpose, a personal sense of value and permanent residence within 30 miles of Tulsa. SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY - THETA ALPHA OMEGA SCHOLARSHIPS -$500 scholarship for male first-time freshmen attending SWOSU in the fall. Application and a 500 word essay on "The Importance of Charity in Today's Society" is due April 1st. More info is available in the counseling office.
TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY PACE SCHOLARSHIP - this is TLU's top scholarship with a value of up to $18,000 a year. Students must be accepted to TLU, graduate with a 3.5 or higher GPA, have a composite SAT of 1250 or higher OR an ACT composite of 28 or higher OR rank in the top 10% of your class with a minimum 1100 SAT or 24 ACT. TULSA ENGINEERING FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS - 3 $2000 scholarships are available to students who plan to study engineering at an accredited engineering school. Applications and guidelines are available in the counseling office. All forms must be received by Feb. 1.
WALMART FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS. All scholarships must be submitted on-line at www.walmartstores.com/CommunityGIving/8736.aspx by 5 pm on Jan. 29, 2010.
- Sam Walton Community Scholarship - $3000 to seniors with 2.5 min.
- GPA and a demonstrated financial need.
- Walmart Associate Scholarship - $3000 to Walmart associate or dependents of associates with at least a 2.5 GPA and demonstrated financial need.
- Walton Family Foundation Scholarship - administered by the Walmart Foundation - $13000 paid out over 4 years to dependents of a Walmart associate with at least a 22 ACT or 1030 SAT score and proven financial need.

Academic Common Market Program - an arrangement among Sounthern states allowing students to pay in-state tuition rates at a non-Oklahoma college or university while studying in select programs not available at Oklahoma public institutions. The tuition savings varies by institution. States included in the SREB Academic Common Market are OK, TX, AR, LA, MS, TN, KY, WV, VA, MD, DE, NC, SC, GA, AL, MS, and FL.

Opportunities for 9th - 11th Grade Students
KOHL's KIDS WHO CARE SCHOLARSHIPS- any student who is not a current senior and whose volunteer efforts to make the community better go beyond what is expected of a student his/her age. can be nominated by teacher, counselor, pastor, coach, etc if they are 13-18 years of age and the extra effort was put in during the past year. The money can be used for ANY type of post-high school education or training, certification, licensing, two-or four-year technical or college education.
